If you have decided on gold, then we will say ‘Good choice! Gold is a truly beautiful metal, and it’s the most non-reactive of all other metals that means that it won’t tarnish or rust.
Then your next question I guess will be what are gold Karats and what is the difference between 9 Karat, 14 Karat and 18 Karat Gold?
The Karat of the metal is a percentage of the pure gold in the alloy. The pure gold is 24 Karat and its generally too soft. This is why most of the time gold is alloyed with metals like copper or silver which makes it harder and better to work with and wear.
With 9 Karat is 37.5 % of pure gold, with 14 Karat its 58.5% and 18 Karat 75 % pure gold.
So 9 Karat yellow gold is harder than 18 Karat yellow as there is more copper in the alloy, and in the white gold, 18 Karat white is the harder metal as the 9ct white has a lot more silver, which is soft. In yellow and rose golds, the hardness between the two is virtually the same.
